Imagine an ordinary electric car that travels 1,200 kilometers without recharging. Does that sound unbelievable? This is the distance covered by the modified Tesla Model S.
The sedan was equipped with a battery pack with twice the capacity of the original Tesla battery, while fitting into the same space. The electric car itself has not undergone any modificationsThis is the fruit of two years of work by a Michigan-based startup, Our Next Energy (ONE), which has proven that it can develop safer and much more efficient batteries.
There are two ways to reduce skepticism about the range of electric cars - cover the entire country with a network of fast chargers (like the Tesla Supercharger) or increase the range of electric cars by using high-capacity, more efficient batteries. The prototype ONE battery installed in the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus, providing almost twice the range without recharging - 1,210 kilometers instead of the regular ones. And this in winter in low temperatures! The developers' next step will be to turn the prototype into a production battery called Gemini, which is scheduled to go into production in 2023.And potential buyers will start to believe that electric cars are really capable of covering very long distances without recharging. Although, most likely, they will choose a more budgetary and less long-range variant
