On his journey, Harker stops at a village, where the locals ask him to stay away from the cursed castle, and provide him with details of the vampire Dracula. Ignoring the villagers' pleas as a fairy tale, Harker continues his journey, climbing the Borgo Pass on foot and eventually reaching Dracula's Castle, where he meets the Count. He finds him a strange rodent-like man, with big ears, pale skin, sharp teeth, and long nails. He is an undead ghoul who lives on men's blood. Dracula travels to Wismar, bringing death and plague with him, and bears the curse of his inability to age and death.
