6th BRICS Young Scientist Forum: India sheds light on digital revolution, energy, healthcare and innovation

At the 6th BRICS Young Scientist Forum, which was organized by the Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, India has participated in energy, health care, innovation and design.

 

Sanjay Bhattacharya, Secretary (CPV & OIPA), BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and BRICS Sherpas, delivered the concluding remarks at the BRICS Young Scientists Forum.

 

6th BRICS Young Scientist Forum: Key Features

  • During this forum event, the officials noted that the corona virus pandemic has caused great hardships to citizens not only in the BRICS countries, but across the globe.The lives and livelihoods of most of the people have been destroyed and the inequalities in the country and the world have also increased tremendously.
  • BRICS should also focus on research and technical cooperation to ensure supply of vaccines, raw materials and allied goods to facilitate inclusive recovery.

BRICS  ministries join hands to support research

As a response to the coronavirus pandemic, BRICS scientific ministries have joined hands to support collaborative research in several areas.

Agencies of BRICS countries, including Department of Science and Technology and Department of Biotechnology from India, co-invested around USD 10 million to fund collaborative projects 

 

Projects under BRICS COVID Call

  • Sanjay Bhattacharya said that BRICS has received about 84 project proposals under the Kovid call. India is a participant in 06 of these 12 projects recommended for support.
  • These projects aim to develop vaccines, drugs, genome sequencing, diagnostic skills, application of artificial intelligence for the treatment and prevention of the COVID-19 virus. 
  • As part of an important COVID process of BRICS, BRICS officials have agreed to operate the BRICS Vaccine Research and Development Center as a virtual network.
