A local company employee view on Belanjawan 2023

Assalamualaikum and a very good day to everyone,

My name is Siti and I am a proud employee of a local company here in Malaysia. As a working mother of two young children, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of Belanjawan 2023, hoping that it would bring some positive changes to my family's financial situation.

Currently, my personal income is around RM3,500 per month, while my husband earns slightly more at RM4,500 per month. Together, our family income is just enough to cover our basic expenses such as bills, groceries and the children's education. Therefore, any additional financial assistance from the government would be greatly appreciated.

Belanjawan 2023 was presented by the Minister of Finance on October 29, 2022, and was approved by the Malaysian Parliament on November 18, 2022. The budget is distributed by the Ministry of Finance and its agencies, which are responsible for managing and monitoring the implementation of the initiatives and programmes outlined in the budget. The budget is typically distributed over the course of the year, with different allocations being made at different times depending on the nature of the initiatives and programmes.

Some examples of the initiatives that have been included in Belanjawan 2023:

  1. Supporting the Growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs): RM2 billion has been allocated to various funds and programmes to support the growth of SMEs, including the SME Digitalisation Grant and the SME Technology Transformation Fund.

  2. Strengthening the Healthcare System: RM30.6 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Health to upgrade healthcare facilities, enhance healthcare services and provide more affordable healthcare to the people.

  3. Investing in Education: RM54.7 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Education to enhance the quality of education, support students and teachers, and improve the infrastructure of schools and higher education institutions.

  4. Creating Job Opportunities: RM10 billion has been allocated to the National Employment Council to create job opportunities, especially in the fields of technology, digitalisation, and green economy.

  5. Supporting Working Parents: Several initiatives have been introduced to support working parents, including the extension of maternity leave to 90 days, introduction of paternity leave, and enhancement of the child tax relief.

After reviewing the Belanjawan 2023, I am pleased to see that the government is prioritizing measures to stimulate economic growth, creating more job opportunities and supporting small and medium enterprises. This, in turn, will hopefully lead to an increase in wages and better job security for Malaysians, including myself.

I was also happy to learn about the various initiatives to support working mothers, such as the extension of maternity leave and the introduction of paternity leave. As a mother, I know how challenging it can be to juggle work and family responsibilities, and these measures will certainly make a positive impact on the lives of many working parents in Malaysia.

However, I also hope that the government will take more steps to support families from lower-income backgrounds, as they are often the ones who struggle the most in making ends meet. One area of improvement that I would like to see is the introduction of more affordable housing schemes, as housing is one of the biggest expenses for many Malaysian families.

Overall, I am optimistic about the direction that Belanjawan 2023 is taking and hope that it will lead to a brighter future for all Malaysians. As an employee and a mother, I am committed to doing my part in contributing to the growth and development of our nation. Together, let us strive for a better Malaysia for ourselves and for future generations. Terima kasih.
