The activities of Belarusian peacekeepers in Kazakhstan will be carried out in accordance with the law.
"The Republic of Belarus is fully prepared to assist the friendly people of Kazakhstan and will fully fulfill its allied obligations. In this regard, Belarusian servicemen of the CSTO peacekeeping forces will be sent to Kazakhstan," reads the report.
Minsk called the events in Kazakhstan an attempt of a violent coup.
"In fact, we are talking about an attempt of a violent coup and change of power in Kazakhstan. We wholeheartedly support the efforts of the leadership of Kazakhstan to stop the riots and looting and restore normal functioning of the country. The clear coordination of the protesters' actions and the organized opposition of militants to law enforcement agencies draws attention," reads the statement of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier in the day it was reported that the number of dead in Alma-Ata was 13, two of them were beheaded.
The brutal actions of the attackers, as the commandant's office of the city is convinced, indicate the terrorist and extremist nature of the gangs who attacked Alma-Ata.
On the night of January 6, the unrest in Almaty did not subside. For example, radical protesters armed themselves and began looting, destroying stores, drugstores and banks. There were reports of shootouts between the military and protesters in the city.
In the morning of January 6, the military in APCs and armored cars encircled the marauding rioters in the center of Alma-Ata. There were about 50 units of military equipment and about 200 demonstrators confronted them. According to journalists, after the cordon the protesters opened fire on the military and as a result a firefight ensued.
Dozens of rioters were killed after an attempt to storm the police building in Almaty. Saltanat Azirbek, spokeswoman for the city's police department, explained that the antiterrorist operation took place in one of the city's districts where administrative buildings are located.
According to the Kazakhstani Ministry of Health, more than 1,000 people have been injured as a result of the riots, almost 400 of whom have been hospitalized and 62 are in intensive care. At the same time, the ministry stressed that the rioters attacked doctors, more than 10 medics were injured.
It also became known that armed bandits in Almaty surrounded two major hospitals and did not allow patients and doctors to enter them.
The president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, said that it was groups of terrorists who seized buildings and infrastructure facilities, rooms with weapons, and fought with the cadets of the schools. He noted that the bandits, who carried out the disorders, had received serious training abroad.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who holds the post of CSTO chairman, said that in connection with Tokayev's appeal and in view of the threat to Kazakhstan's national security and sovereignty caused by interference from outside, the CSTO Collective Security Council decided to send a collective peacekeeping force for a limited period to stabilize and normalize the situation in that country.
The CSTO secretariat has reported that the Russian part of the peacekeeping contingent has been airlifted to Kazakhstan by military transport aircraft of the Russian Air Force. It is noted that the forward units of its composition have already begun to carry out their tasks.
In addition to Kazakhstan, the CSTO includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
