Can we use microorganism as a food source

We are all surrounded by microscopic living organisms, which are visible only through the microscope. Microbes are mainly containing bacteria, viruses,  protozoa, algae, and fungi. Viruses and viroids are not considered as living organisms at present, they are sometimes classified as microorganisms.

Microbes including bacteria, Viruses and fungi that can make you sick. But you may not realize that billions of microbes live inside your body right now. Most of microorganism are not hurmful for our body at all. In fact, they help you in digesting food, strengthen immunesystem to fight against diseases and maintain your reproductive health.

Microorganisms as food source

The most interesting part is that we can use microorganisms as a source of food and it is really good for health. Microorganisms are widely used in so many different industries but also in the food industry to produce two kinds of nutritious and preserved foods due to their own body content.

Microbes are essential for many of the food products we consume in day-to-day life, such as bread, cheese, and alcoholic beverages.

Bacteria, yeast, and microalgae plays important role in the production of nutrients, enzymes, and different food products. Microbial production of substances such as organic acids, enzymes, proteins, vitamins, antibiotics, and hydrocolloids is also important.

Microbial biomass found in bacteria, yeast, fungi (containing filament) or microalgae is a more promising replacement of conventional food and nutrition sources. Microorganisms are a good source of protein, vitamins and sometimes they also contain important lipids.

Microorganisms are mainly used by food industries. Yeast, bacteria, fungi, or a combination of these three. A good example of the use of the microorganism in food production is the fermentation process, which leads to the production of organic acids, alcohol and esters.

vitamins C, B2, B12, and ergocalciferol or D2, menaquinone or K2, coenzyme Q10 or ubiquinone, pyrrolquinoline quinine.

Different types of vitamins, proteins, enzymes and steroids are made from micro-organisms. In fact vitamins, enzymes, proteins and steroids and other microbes are much healthier than most inorganic products used by humans today.
