Lammens launched the new visa "Nómades digitales"
Argentina announced on Tuesday the creation of a special visa aimed at "digital nomads", travelers who carry out their work remotely while visiting another country.
Digital nomads usually have a higher purchasing power and spend an average of around $3,000 a month, which is double what a regular tourist might spend. The new visa hopes to bring in much-needed hard currency by attracting people interested in working temporarily in Argentina
The visa will be valid for six months, renewable for another six months. "This is a visa that did not exist here, but that other countries already have," she explained.
In an act at the Kirchner Cultural Center, led by the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo "Wado" de Pedro, the website was presented from which the procedure can be carried out ten days after the measure is published in the "Boletín Oficial".
Who can apply for the new visa?
The head of Migrations, Florencia Carignano stated that "it is a specific visa for people who, in addition to providing services in favor of natural or legal persons domiciled abroad, are foreign nationals of countries that do not require a tourist visa to enter Argentina."
“It is for people who today live outside of Argentina. If there is one that is here traveling and has decided to stay, they can apply ,” she added.
On the other hand, the Program for Digital Nomads in accommodation is also available , under which a training for workers in the hotel sector is framed in order to familiarize them with the specific needs of the nomad segment. Likewise, a seal for hotels is being carried out so that nomads can quickly identify accommodations that meet the necessary requirements to live and work in Argentina.
This action is added to the series of initiatives carried out by the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR), with the collaboration of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the country , to attract digital nomads to the country, such as the Visit Argentina card, framed in the "Argentine Treasures" program, which will allow foreign tourists who visit the country to obtain points that can be exchanged for gastronomic or recreational experiences after personal activation. Along the same lines, promotional and public relations events will be held in cities with the potential to attract this segment. At the same time, Aerolineas Argentinas will join this initiative with special rates for this type of tourist.
