E-textiles (or smart clothing) are fabrics in which digital components and electronics are embedded to provide added value to the user. There are many other applications that rely on integrating electronics into fabrics, such as interior design technology.
This type of technology is considered revolutionary because it can do several things that conventional fabrics cannot, including conduct energy, communicate, transform and grow.
Future smart clothing applications could be developed for health monitoring, soldier tracking and pilot monitoring. Personal and portable physiological monitoring, communication, heating and lighting could benefit from this technology.
