Elon Musk sells off Tesla stock

The head of the U.S. electric car manufacturer Tesla Inc. Ilon Musk has sold a new portion of the company's shares. It is about 639.7 thousand shares, the total value of which amounted to about $687 million, reports Finmarket agency.
Earlier last week, he sold securities worth about $5 billion by exercising options he had received as part of his compensation. Thus, the entrepreneur sold securities for the first time since 2016 - then he sold his shares to pay $590 million in income tax.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk announced his willingness to sell an even larger share of his shares in the company. Thus, he responded on Twitter to Congressman Bernie Sanders' call for fairer taxation of the rich, writes the agency "TASS".

To recall, last week, Elon Musk held a poll on Twitter on whether he should sell 10% of his Tesla shares, saying he would stick to the results of the poll. As a result, 57.9% of more than 3.5 million voters supported the possible sale of the securities.

According to Forbes' real-time billionaire ranking, on November 1, Elon Musk became the first person in history whose fortune exceeded $300 billion.

As AUTOSTAT reported earlier, at the end of October 2021, the capitalization of the U.S. electric car maker Tesla Inc. surpassed the $1 trillion mark. The report that international car rental service Hertz Global Holdings Inc. ordered 100 thousand electric cars Tesla contributed to the growth of share price. Thus, since the beginning of the current year, the company's capitalization grew by 45%, reaching the mark of $1.01 trillion. As a result, Tesla joined a narrow circle of companies with a market value above $1 trillion, which includes Apple Inc., Microsoft Corp., Alphabet Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. Facebook was also previously in this group, but it is currently capitalized at less than $1 trillion.
