Fake threatening emails in the name of Fedpol
Ignore virtual mail that supposedly comes from the Federal Office of Police (fedpol). This threatens criminal proceedings for child pornography.
If you receive an e-mail with an attached PDF letter containing the Police.ch or cybercrimepolice.ch logo and stating that the mail is supposedly sent on behalf of the Swiss Confederation, then it is very likely a forgery.
The message claims to be guilty of distributing pedophile content on the Internet, writes the Zurich Cantonal Police on the cybercrimepolice.ch website. The recipient should contact the police by e-mail at a specific e-mail address so that the allegations can be verified. If this does not happen within 48 hours, an arrest warrant will be issued.
Alternatively, the e-mail message is sent in the name of Europol or Police Fédérale. The Fedpol website says the emails could also be sent in the name of individuals, such as Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter or Fedpol Director Nicoletta della Valle. On March 10, 2022, 73 people have reported to cybercrimepolice.ch who have been affected by these mails, according to the website.
PCtipp advises: Mark this email as spam and delete it afterwards. Do not reply to it. Report such e-mails via the website of the National Cyber Security Center NCSC using the report form.
These emails are sent in various forms and on a large scale. As a result, many people have received such emails. Unfortunately, out of confusion, some victims pay the requested money to the scammers. The police never send fines or court documents by e-mail!
!!!Attention!!!: Fraudulent threatening e-mails sent in the name of various police authorities (fedpol, Europol, Interpol) and/or various persons (Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter, Director Nicoletta della Valle) are still circulating in large numbers. The e-mail threatens to initiate criminal proceedings against the recipient for visiting websites with child pornography content. This e-mail exists in various forms. Do not reply to it, but report it to the NCSC via https://www.report.ncsc.admin.ch.
