A bishop of the Catholic church in Solsona, Spain, has lost his spiritual title or clergy after marrying an erotica writer.
Erotica is a literary work whose theme or nature is related to sexual desire or lust. The work is contrary to the teachings of the Catholic religion. Moreover, the author also uses an approach that smells of dark magic or satanic. The Diocese of Solsona issued a statement last weekend banning the bishop, Xavier Novell Goma from serving the sacraments and engaging in active religious teaching. Even so, Novell can still maintain his status as bishop. .
"(Novell is prohibited from) exercising the rights and functions inherent in the office of bishop," said a statement from Solsona Diocese on Sunday (12/12).
Novell held a civil marriage with Silvia Caballol on November 22 in Barcelona. His actions fall into the prohibited category as stated in Canon 1394.1 of the Catholic Church.
"A priest who tries to marry, even if only civilly, must be suspended," the law reads.
In 2010, Novell became Spain's youngest bishop at 41 years of age. He was then assigned to Solsona, a small town north of Barcelona in the Catalonia region of northeastern Spain. Novell became one of the bishops who supported gay conversion therapy and carried out exorcisms or the practice of exorcising demons and evil spirits from the human body. Meanwhile, Caballol began his career as a novelist in 2015. According to the website of the publisher who reviewed her profile, Lacre, the woman is an expert in clinical psychology, sexology and yoga. Caballol is also reported to have studied Catholicism and Islam. On the website, he is rated as someone who longs to live life to the fullest and "a seeker of new emotions and sensations."
"(Caballol) is a dynamic and transgressive writer who has put himself in a safe position in the literary world to overturn all our moral and ethical considerations," Licre wrote about Caballol. One of Caballol's novels is entitled "The Hell of Gabriel's Lust." plunges the reader into a world of psychopathy, cults, sadism, madness, unreality, and immorality.
The novel chronicles the struggle between good and evil, between God and Satan, and between angels and demons. Neither Novell nor Caballol have issued statements regarding Novell's suspension of diocesan power or their recent marriage.
