Found a method to predict the death rate from coronavirus

MOSCOW, October 19 - RIA Novosti. An international group of scientists has identified a biomarker, the presence of which allows you to determine the severity of the course of coronavirus infection. The research results were published in the scientific journal EMBO Molecular Medicine .

Experts have found that the course of the disease is influenced by the expression of the hFwe-Lose gene - the synthesis of the protein or RNA that it encodes.

"In patients with acute lung injury, the level of this biomarker was higher in the lower airways and at sites of cell death," the article says.

The hFwe-Lose level can be determined using a nasal swab.

The accuracy of predicting death or severe disease based on hFwe-Lose was 87.8-100%. The authors emphasized that the presented method turned out to be much more effective than when relying on parameters such as the patient's age and state of health.
