Scientists believe that some products, especially those that are rich in bioactive substances and vitamins, are able to protect against hazardous diseases. This time the experts discovered a berry that can prevent heart problems. A group of scientists from the University of California in Los Angeles conducted an experiment within which he found out that one popular product can reduce cholesterol and, as a result, reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including infarction and stroke.
19 healthy adults participated in the study. For four weeks, they adhered to low fiber and polyphenol diet.
Over the next four weeks, scientists gave them 46 grams of grape powder per day - this is equal to two portions of California grapes, while the participants still continued to observe their diet.
Experts found that grape consumption significantly increased the variety of beneficial bacteria in the intestines, which is very important for good immunity. In addition, grapes helped reduce cholesterol levels - substances that can clog arteries and lead to heart disease. The use of berries reduces total cholesterol by 6.1% and LDL cholesterol by 5.9%.
"This study expands the spectrum of the healthy properties of grapes and confirms the benefit of this berry for the health of the heart," the scientists say.
According to researchers, grapes are rich in antioxidants with polyphenols - organic compounds that support the health of blood vessels, help control blood sugar levels and blood pressure.
About the benefits of grapes for the heart Scientists wrote back in 2010. Then the researchers of the University of Michigan examined the influence of the table grapes crushed into the powder, on the health of laboratory rats.
Three months later, the animals were given grapes, the lower blood pressure was diagnosed, the best heart work than in rats that did not receive the grape powder. Earlier, Swedish scientists have found fatty dairy products for the heart, and researchers from Great Britain told how chocolate affects sports results.
