FOUNT SAID HE WAS OFFERED A FIGHT WITH YAN FOR THE INTERIM TITLE
UFC lightweight division top-4 Rob Font (19-4) could not accept an offer to fight Peter Yan (15-2) because of a coronavirus.
"Yeah, the UFC called me, but I was sick with coronavirus and I wasn't training. So I couldn't take that fight. I was furious, but everything happens for a reason. As I understood it, they were choosing between me and Sandhagen. They basically said to me, "We're wondering if you're ready, but we'll negotiate with Sandhagen as well."
It's too bad I had to turn it down, but I'm glad they made me that offer. I didn't know if it was going to be a real belt fight or a temporary belt fight. But once it became known that the title was provisional, I knew it wasn't so bad," Font said.
