Google released Android TV 12

As enthusiastic mobile developer community XDA Developers noted back during the beta testing of the platform, the fresh version of Android TV offers long-awaited features that make Android 12 the most exciting update for the Android TV platform in years.

For now, stable Android TV 12 is available on a limited basis and it will be a while before manufacturers start releasing updates based on it for their TVs. To get Android TV 12 right now, you'll need a special device - Google's proprietary ADT-3 TV set-top box, designed for developers.

Android TV 12 brings a redesigned interface. One of the major innovations of Android TV 12 is support for displaying the interface in 4K resolution. While Android TV has supported 4K content playback for years, Android 12 is the first version of the platform to display the UI itself in 4K. Previously, the UI was rendered at a maximum resolution of 1080p and then scaled to fit the TV screen. Now the home screen interface, settings and other system elements should become sharper, without the characteristic "blurring."

Also with Android TV 12 will appear the long-awaited support for dynamic frame rate switching. Depending on the content being played, the TV will automatically be able to switch the refresh rate to the optimal value.

There's background blur and text scaling, new privacy indicators for enabled cameras and microphones like Android 12 smartphones, and support for HDMI CEC 2.0.
