Gratitude: Happy New year

Anyone else happy that we have a blank slate to try again? It is that time of the year again. Happy and prosperous new year. I know I am ecstatic. I haven't had much time to sit down and reflect on the year 2023. I am sure that I am in good company. This is my attempt to reflect on what worked, what didn't work, and how best I can grow and achieve my goals.

These years after the Covid 19 pandemic have been a bit difficult for quite a lot of people, myself included. One was tempted to give up so many times. The unemployment rates went up, the recession hit, taxes keep going up, it is a mess. I take this opportunity to give you a virtual hug.

However a good number of us kept hanging on with the sheer tenacity of a bull dog because nothing is permanent.

We only have one life to live. Why not live it to the fullest? That is the question. Writing is a hobby of mine, but I haven't created time for it. I also like sport, but I neglected it. I haven't been at my full percentage of zen or motivation, and I hope to change that. Someone said the easiest way to create and maintain change is to replace bad habits with good ones, one bad habit at a time. We learn from other people all the time and I think this is a good way to learn.

I want to focus on being grateful for what I have. After reminiscing a little today, it hit me that I have had a few wins and a few partial wins. However I didn't document them religiously so this needs to change.

That aside, I want to be more mindful in how I live my life. It is said that it takes 21 days to make a habit. It takes 90 days to convert the habit into a permanent change in your lifestyle.

My new habit of 2024, will be to maintain a gratitude journal and a gratitude jar.

Step one: How to get the gratitude jar and the gratitude journal

Don't stress about it. Start with what you have. I am sure you can find a jar or tin in your house. Label it and put it in a visible area in your house. Then drop a note outlining what you are grateful for that day.

A gratitude journal, on the other hand, any notebook will do. The thing is to take that first step. Once can do a digital journal. Maybe it is easier to type it and have it in soft copy. A lot of people prefer to have a notebook and write in it daily, as it also helps in manifesting the dream life that one wants. What will you choose?

Step Two: Have stationery.

This is obvious but someone can forget. You can have your pens, art supplies to do so, anything that makes it fun and memorable. What else goes with stationery? A pen holder? You can buy one, or create one through different types of crafting. Hope this motivates you a little bit.

Step 3 Just do it!

I think this is self explanatory. I am starting mine, are you? Can't wait to go through the gratitude jars and Journals at the end of the year and count the number of wins.

Go on. I am rooting for you.
