Moussaka is a casserole of vegetables and minced meat. Layers of prepared ingredients are filled with béchamel sauce, covered with cheese and baked in the oven. Greek moussaka must have eggplants. And I should also say that moussaka is not a diet casserole, and in order to make it tasty, the vegetables should be fried separately before being put into the form. Although it increases the cooking time compared with other types of casseroles, the result is definitely worth it!

Prepare pork, beef or pork-beef minced meat, onion, vegetable oil (preferably olive oil or sunflower without odor), potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, hard cheese, milk, butter, flour, salt, ground pepper.

In a mold designed to be used in the oven (rectangular shape), place the following products in layers:

Roasted potato circles (in vegetable oil, on both sides, without peel, lightly salted already after roasting and laying in the form);

fried potatoes

Fried eggplant slices (in vegetable oil, on both sides, with or without peel);

Fried eggplants - Minced meat fried with onions (I have minced pork, lots of onions, also minced meat with onions should be salted and peppered at the time of frying);

Stuffing fried meat

Slices of fresh tomatoes;

Tomatoes

Still hot béchamel sauce (melt the butter, lightly fry the flour, pour the warm milk and cook until thickened, stirring, salt while cooking);

Béchamel sauce

Hard cheese (coarse grater).

Sprinkle with cheese.

Moussaka Greek-style with eggplant, I got a big, 8 portions for sure enough! A 30 cm by 18 cm mold took up all of it:

Now put the casserole in the heated oven (without covering, 30 minutes, 200 degrees).

Baking the Greek moussaka

When it's hot Greek moussaka is not very easy to cut into portions - the cut is not smooth, it's like lasagna. But the flavor is amazing :)
