Healthy summer foods to beat heat waves and to stay cool

Mangoes are the best treat for summers. A mango's high water content will keep you hydrated during the scorching heat. Other foods that are healthy and help maintain a consistent body temperature include watermelon, cucumbers, celery, strawberries, and spinach.


Also try to stay away from spicy food for it may give you momentary heat relief but instead cause dehydration. You should also avoid solid foods like ice creams as it is difficult to digest them in the hot weather.


The following tips prevent dehydration:

Use a Fan in the room where you spend most of your time.


Consume enough water. Staying hydrated is not only healthy, but it's also the best way to prevent heat strokes and keep yourself cool during the summer months. It's important to stay hydrated with two or three additional quarts of water per day even when you're not getting hot. Make sure to drink milk, tea or coffee too, which makes you feel cooler.


Wear loose and light clothes, preferably cotton. Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your head from the sun, which is especially important if you have diabetes.


Eat yogurt or add a spoonful of honey in your water. Yogurt contains probiotics that are beneficial to intestinal flora and fight infections. Honey helps the body resist bacterial growth in warm weather. Drink at least 3 to 4 glasses of water upon waking up and before going to bed throughout the day.


Wear sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher and reapply it every 2 hours for maximum protection against the sun.


Walk on the shaded side of buildings whenever possible. Apply antibacterial cream on skin rashes, bug bites or blisters to prevent infections.


Most of all, care should be taken to drink water in this season. Because due to lack of water, the body may have to face many health problems. It has often been seen in this season that you have a desire to eat and drink something cold and in such a situation, things made of ice like ice cream, balls and other things in front of you attract your attention. But you should stay away from these. Because these things are injurious to health.
