The importance of politicians in any democratic setting cannot be overemphasized.
They play a very vital role in local, state and national levels of public service. They usually create, enact, implement and execute laws governing the society.
Furthermore, they determine how a government should be run for the betterment of the country.
The job of a politician is very challenging and rewarding. Good example of political office holders are: the president, governors, members of state House of Assembly, Senate and House of Representative members, local government chairmen and councilors.
However, any one aspiring to become a successful politician must possess a degree certificate, get involved in local politics, connect with local political leaders, start campaigning and create a platform to campaign for a higher position.
In Nigeria for instance, a primary school certificate holder can contest for any elective position, as it is enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.
This provides an opportunity for such individual to consult with relevant political leaders in his ward and beyond before contesting for an election.
Also, it is a good step in the right direction for young people to get involved in local politics.
This will afford them the opportunity to join any political party of their choice and gain recognition from their people and other politicians. By so doing, it will create room for them to vote and to be voted for.
There is a need to connects with political leaders at the grassroots and learn a lot from them before building your own political career.
This can provide an avenue for one to gain support and confidence from the citizens.

Besides, establishing good rapport with people most especially your community members’ can make one to gain support, trust and confidence to run for any political office, be it councilor, State House of Assembly, Senate or House of Representative as the case may be.
The essence of creating political platform is to bring people together for the purpose of achieving a common goal.
This is where one start preparing to campaign for higher political position. It requires patience, dedication, strategy and fund to gain support from your community members and beyond.
Most successful politicians today are the ones who started from the grassroots to the top. They were focused, determined, resilient, committed and hardworking.
This reminds me of Hon. Yusuf Salihu, the chairman of urban/rural development in Kaduna State House of Assembly, representing Kawo constituency.
He started his political career at the local level where he was given the opportunity to serve his people, and he performs credibly well in this new political dispensation.
He recently donated seating chairs and desks to students of Badarawa government secondary school in Kaduna.
He also assisted some members of his constituency with fund to start small and medium enterprise scheme businesses (SMEs).
He equally contributed to the development of health sector in Kaduna state.
He has indeed touched the lives of so many people in one way or the other. He is a man who believes in education and development.
And he was able to achieve this feat because he possesses the outstanding qualities of how to become a successful politician.
This is why his people want him to come back for second tenure in office come 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
