How to make Bengali style daab Chingri at home?

  1. 2 green coconut
  2. 500 gm prawns
  3. 1/4 cup Mustard oil
  4. 1 tsp Salt to taste
  5. 3 tbsp onion paste
  6. 1 tsp garlic paste
  7. 1 tbsp mustard paste
  8. 2 tbsp coconut malai
  9. 1/2 cup readymade coconut milk
  10. 5 tbsp coconut water
  11. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  12. 1/2 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
  13. 1/4 tsp Sugar to taste



  1. Two green coconuts are used here aka daab and pour the coconut water in a bowl for cooking and scrap out the coconut pulp aka malai from inside with a spoon

  2. Marinate the prawns with salt and turmeric powder for 10 minutes

  3. Now in a kadai take mustard oil and fry the prawns in batches and keep aside

  4. Now in the same oil add onion paste, mustard paste, coconut malai, garlic paste, salt and cook till raw smell gone.

  5. Add the fried prawns and coconut water and stir well. Now add coconut milk and red chilli powder and sugar to taste. The prawns stuffing for coconut is ready.

  6. Now stuff the prawns inside the daab, seal the mouth and place in a big pot of steamed water. Bring the water to boil. Steam for 20 minutes and allow to cool. Slowly take out the prawns with the gravy and transfer to a serving bowl. Serve with hot rice and enjoy this delectable recipe
