How to recover from stress

In these times of high speed, constant change and information overload, it is more important than ever to maintain mental health. Every day we are exposed to stress: in crowded traffic, in traffic jams, at work and in the family. Sometimes it seems that "I don't have the mental strength to fight it all. So what should you do to protect yourself from stress, how to preserve your mental health?

As noted by experts, there is no universal recipe, but to protect yourself from the negative effects of stress and minimize its consequences, you can follow some simple hygiene rules.

First of all, we should not destroy the health that we have. Here we are talking about addictions that lead to the destruction of the body and psyche as well. These are smoking, alcohol abuse, use of other psychoactive substances, abuse of stimulating products (coffee, strong tea, energy drinks).

The second is the restoration of adequate, high-quality sleep. Even one night without sleep causes daytime sleepiness, increased irritability, and reduced concentration. Lack of sleep disrupts the metabolism of mediators in the brain, including serotonin. This substance affects mood and gives a feeling of calmness. Lack of serotonin in sleep deprivation can lead to depression. Sleep deprivation increases the risk of chronic fatigue syndrome and professional burnout, which are already characteristic of people living in conditions of constant stress. They say that "nerve cells regenerate in sleep". Of course, if the nerve cells are dead, nothing can restore them. But nerve cells have branches, the interaction of which allows us to remember, store information in the brain and use it at the right time. This is called memory. It is the function of memory that is restored during a good night's sleep. Ideally, sleep should occur at the same time, in comfortable conditions, and all home appliances that emit an electromagnetic field (TV, microwave ovens, cell phones) should be turned off. Evening quiet walks in the fresh air are recommended to facilitate falling asleep. With difficulty falling asleep remember the pleasant bodily and mental sensations that were in your life, try to feel them again before going to sleep, relax and in any case do not think about the day's problems.

The third thing is adequate physical activity. Strength exercises increase the level of stimulating hormones. But if you abuse heavy exercise or work hard all the time and do not know how to rest, then it can form a neurotic state. That's why any sports activity should end with relaxing exercises.

Proper nutrition is one of the most important ways to maintain mental health. This is especially important for the growing body. Ironically, in our time of food availability of a huge number of adolescents have disorders of vitamin metabolism, lack of micronutrients and important amino acids in the body. This is due to the characteristics of the diet (fast food, the use of large amounts of sugary foods, soy products, lack of fruits and vegetables in the diet). Without natural products, the child's brain does not develop fully, children quickly become tired, irritable, neurotic personality development is formed.

Also, you should not neglect the help of doctors. When you see that your loved one needs help - the main thing is not to let him shut down, you need to talk to him about what is bothering him, accompany him to a specialist. Many pathological mental conditions can be treated with medication, but no medicine can replace the warmth of human communication, love of loved ones, kind, partner relationships.
