Place the filler in a quiet and secluded place in your home. It should not be an aisle or hallway, or places near doors where people often walk. The ideal place is a bathroom or toilet that is always open and the cat has access to the litter around the clock.
The best time to go to a new toilet for the first time would be 20-40 minutes after the kitten has eaten. Take it and place it with its paws right in the litter tray.
Pet it, say something affectionate, and then stand back and let it look around and sniff its new place.
If the kitten is ready - he will do all the necessary things. After the procedure is complete - praise him and bury the scraps with a fresh layer of filler. The waste should not be removed because of the importance of having the smell of waste in the toilet area. Cats can smell it and it is easier for them to find the toilet spot. Nevertheless, the toilet should not be left untouched at all. Kittens and adult cats are very picky about cleanliness and will not go to a dirty litter box.
Important: Don't be too aggressive with your kitten. If you can't get him accustomed to the litter box and he goes to the toilet in the wrong places - show him your dissatisfaction, but very kindly. At the moment of an error come up to the kitten, lightly tap its nose and tell it what it is wrong (this is how cats let their kittens know they are wrong). Then take him to the litter box and tell him that this is where he needs to go to the bathroom.
If the cat skipped the loo more than an hour ago, don't scold him, this will cause him to misunderstand. He won't remember what he did wrong. You must make him aware of his mistake, but as we wrote above, do it in a very friendly way, without yelling or physical abuse.
We train at different ages of the kitten
Choose the age of your kitten/cat, so that we can give more relevant and effective recommendations for your case.
Kitten up to 3 months old
Kittens under 3 months old are a bit more difficult to train to go to the litter box than older kittens. Learning at this age is slower. You will probably spend 7-10 days, not 3, but you can train any cat.
For small kittens, it is better to place the litter box in the room where they spend the most time.
For very young kittens, it is important to place the litter tray in the bedroom or lounge where the kitten spends the most time. Once you have toilet trained in 2-3 weeks, you can gradually move the litter box to a more private and human-friendly place such as the bathroom or toilet.
At times when the kitten begins to travel around the room by himself - try to watch his behavior. Carry the kitten directly to the litter box as soon as you notice it has stopped and become alert, not moving. This is a sure sign that he's thinking about the litter box.
Three to six month old kitten
This is the most appropriate age to train your kitten to the litter box. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. And remember, affectionate care for your pet is far more important than swearing at him.
