Apple's heartwarming comedy Ted Lasso has the most nominations going into the night with 13, with drama heavyweights The Crown and The Handmaid's Tale following close behind with 11.

What is the Emmy for Best Drama Series?

The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards will see five shows fight for the top prize: The Handmaid's Tale, Better Call Saul, House of Cards, Stranger Things, and Westworld. The Handmaid's Tale, which also won the same category last year, looks to have the edge over its competitors, both in terms of viewers and awards history. Over the past three years, it has been the most nominated show in the category, and last year, it won the award for Best Drama Series, its second year in a row. The other competitors are Stranger Things, House of Cards, and Westworld, all with the advantage of Netflix exclusivity. Stranger Things is coming off an exciting second season last year, while Westworld received tons of buzz in its inaugural season. But if history is anything to go by, Netflix has the edge here.

Who are the nominees for the Emmy for Best Drama Series?

Game of Thrones — HBO Game of Thrones leads the list of Emmy nominations this year, with 22 total nods. After winning last year, this marks the show's third consecutive win for Best Drama Series. In a surprise, The Handmaid's Tale was nominated in the category for the first time, but its searing critique of women's subjugation in dystopian societies was likely too dark to earn the win. That leaves Westworld, who fared much better than The Handmaid's Tale last year, as the primary competition for Game of Thrones. Last year, the category was won by HBO's Game of Thrones, and it did not win for Outstanding Drama Series. The Handmaid's Tale and the winner of that category, The Crown, were the other nominations this year, both for seven nominations.

How can you watch Emmy Awards live online in India?

The 2017 Emmys will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on Monday morning on the Emmys website and CBS. You can also watch the event live on Hotstar or Amazon Prime Video. In India, the live stream will begin from 12.30 am IST on the Emmy Awards website. It is not yet clear whether Hotstar will broadcast the live stream of the Emmys as well. The streaming giant has previously restricted live content of other content platforms to its website and app, excluding services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. This also includes live streams of several sports events like FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro and Wimbledon, so it's possible the company may not allow the Emmys to be streamed at all.

Conclusion

While the Emmys are about celebrating television, the Oscars are more about the stars. It's hard to imagine that Hollywood will abandon its biggest night to award a web series — especially when the best actress category features four women who have never been nominated for an Oscar: Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid's Tale), Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Deuce), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) and Keri Russell (The Americans)
