In the End, We All Succumb To Technology

I'm not one to say that old times were better, but it's crazy how much of our lives has become digital, and this is only just the beginning. Remember the infamous Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram global outage of late 2021? We all freaked out, everyone complained about it on other social media platforms such as Twitter; it felt like our lives were put on hold, like there was literally a pause button that our Creator pushed, but our hearts were still beating just fine and we could move about. That's how crazy it was! In the old days when cell phones had buttons and their only function was to make calls, voice calls that is, we wouldn't even notice that there was bad network reception until we had to make an important call, and it still wasn't that big of a deal. These days, however, we see it as it slowly deteriorates with each passing second, getting on our nerves as it does. Someone once said, "Imagine if all these social media platforms closed by 6 p.m like shops. We would all be forced to go back to our real lives, interact with one another, have some meaningful conversations like we used to."

The conveniences that technology has brought us are undeniable; most people make money without ever setting foot outside of their homes, which wasn't possible two decades ago. One night at home, the lights went out and when I looked out the window, everything was fine at the neighbours'; we weren't aware that we were running out of electricity. About 3 minutes later, the lights were back on, all thanks to an app on my mobile device; a decade ago I would have had to walk a considerable distance to buy it. We can purchase things from the comfort of our homes and have them delivered straight to our doors; when we go out we don't have to spend extra buying a camera or hiring a cameraman to take us photos, which leaves us with more money for other things. There are numerous other instances to ascribe to technology! But, isn't it fair to say that as convenient as our lives have been made, we just don't interact the same way anymore? Some of the things that were invigorating about real-life, physical interaction have also been taken away. The crazy thing however, is that whether you like technology or not, you will eventually succumb to its effects.

The best that some of us can do is reminisce the old days when even cars kept us alive by demanding that all our senses be fully active in order to make the best out of the journey, because this will only continue to advance whether we like it or not.
