Indian Culture: Indian Traditions and Customs
The culture of India is one of the oldest cultures in the world; Civilization in India started about 4,500 years ago. According to the CIA World Factbook, today India is a very diverse country with over 1.2 billion people, making it the second most populous country after China. Different regions have their own distinct cultures. Language, religion, food and arts are some of the different aspects of Indian culture. Hindi is our official language. India is recognized as the birthplace of the third and fourth largest religions, Hinduism and Buddhism. About 84 percent of the population identifies as Hindu.
Indian cuisine is influenced by many other countries as well. It is known for its large assortment of dishes and its liberal use of herbs and spices. Faith, family and castes shape every aspect of Indian culture from birth to death and all the trials and parties in between. Indian culture and traditions are something that have now become famous all over the world. We all consider the customs and traditions of India to be very diverse and unique. But rarely do we consider why things are done in certain ways. Indian culture is full of many unique customs and traditions, which may be interesting to outsiders.
Most of these have originated from ancient Indian scriptures and texts, which have determined the way of life in India for thousands of years. Namaste is one of the most popular Indian customs and is no longer confined to the Indian region alone. A large number of festivals are also observed in India, mainly due to the practice of diverse religions and groups. Muslims celebrate Eid, Christians have Christmas and Good Friday, Sikhs have Baisakhi (harvesting), and their gurus have birthdays and Hindus have Diwali, Holi, Makar Sankranti, Jains have Mahavir Jayanti Buddhists celebrate. Buddha’s birthday falls on Buddha Purnima, and honestly, the numbers are endless. All of these definitely translate to holidays in our book. India is different from others in terms of traditions, customs, customs and most importantly they are united by being different religions. Our culture is the most oldest culture of world following the old traditions, rituals. No generation can stop the peoples to follow these customs like celebrating festivals in their old way. Every peoples love to obey their oldest traditions, rituals, customs. In India peoples are divided with their cultures like hindu, muslims, Sikhism, punjabi etc. They all follow their own way of traditions. India’s speciality is it has so much of festivals to celebrate some the festival of colours, some the festival of lights, the festival of happiness. We are divided by religious but United by cultures.
