1. Why are mountains often called the cradle of mankind?

"Mountains, the cradle of mankind" - In this expression, the cradle refers to "the beginning of mankind," that after the Flood.

 

2. Why and for what reason do pilots wear scarves?

The world-famous beautiful white scarves of pilots. More than once they have captured the awe-inspiring hearts of women. But for beauty pilots, especially in wartime, wore nothing. So what are scarves for?

At the dawn of great aviation, unfortunately, pilots did not yet have many devices that help track enemies. That's why they had to constantly turn their heads while flying and look out for enemy planes. This caused them to rub their necks against the collar. That's why silk scarves were added to the uniforms of "sky" pilots. The scarves appealed to everyone so much that many years later many pilots still wear magnificent silk scarves. They are their symbol of the sky and freedom, even though they have no functional purpose now.

 

3. Why did pirates drink rum?

During the "reign" of pirates rum was the most popular drink. Besides its heady "plus", its popularity was justified by a purely practical matter. Rum was made from sugar syrup, thanks to which it did not spoil in the heat and water after a couple of days began to smell rotten. By adding a little rum, the water became usable and normal tasting again.

That's why sea voyages often looked like a full-on party, and often ended tragically: shipwreck.
