It's official: Valve's Steam Deck portable console will remain without exclusives

Apparently, many developers were curious about Valve's opinion on releasing games available only on Steam Deck, but the company said it doesn't see the point, because Steam Deck is, in fact, a PC and its whole point is to run games just like PC, only in a portable format.

Will Valve be interested in exclusive games for Steam Deck?

"No, it doesn't make much sense to us. Steam Deck is a PC and games on it should run like on PC."

Steam Deck will launch with a modified version of Valve's SteamOS. The system will get a console interface that will allow easy navigation through the shop and its own library. However, the device will also provide access to a more traditional desktop, through which third-party Linux applications can be launched and installed.

Essentially, this means that users will be able to run games and lunchers indistinguishable from Steam. What's more, there's nothing to stop users from installing another OS, such as Windows, on the console, making Steam Deck a full-fledged portable PC.

Earlier this month Valve announced a two-month delay in the release of Steam Deck. Instead of later this year, the first devices won't start reaching pre-orders until February.
