Acccording to reports,the Islamic West African Province,ISWAP, reportedly overran a military base in Rann, Borno state on Monday.
Rann is the headquarter of Kala-Balge local government area of Borno state,in the Northeast of Nigeria. It is about 350 km from Maiduguri,the capital of Borno state.
Fleeing residents told news reporters that the Islamic fighters stormed the town in large numbers, shooting sporadically on residents of the town immediately as they entered.
It was gathered that the Jihadist came fully prepared with heavy machine guns,RPGs,hand grenades and gun mounted trucks.
With the superior fire power,they were said to have easily dislodged Nigeria troops of Operation Hadin Kai stationed in the town.
Many people including military operatives were said to have been Killed in the attack,which local residents said began at around 10pm Sunday night till 6am Monday morning.
Aid workers were said to have been trapped within the fight zone.
However,the numbers of casualties have not been made known.
The attack however came few hours after Governor Babagana Zulum and local stakeholders agreed to accept returning "repentant" terrorists into the communities
