Microsoft's 20th Anniversary Xbox controller has been unveiled ahead of schedule

On Wednesday, the official Xbox Twitter account posted a photo of the darkened controller with the message "20 years of play in your hands," but no details could be seen.

UPDATE: Microsoft has officially announced the 20th anniversary special edition Xbox controller, as well as a special edition Xbox stereo headset, both of which will be available for pre-order on November 15 for $69.99.

When players connect the controller to an Xbox Series X/S console, an exclusive dynamic background will be unlocked.

This can be unlocked on any console the pad is connected to, but once another background is selected, the 20th anniversary one will be unavailable until the special edition controller is reconnected.

THE ORIGINAL STORY GOES ON: The Best Buy listing, on the other hand, shows the controller clearly and provides a detailed description of it.

The listing says, "Inspired by the styles and innovations of the past, this 20th Anniversary Special Edition Xbox wireless controller brings you the best of the last 20 years."

"It has a transparent black design with vibrant green details that stays true to Xbox's signature style, while thoughtfully designed buttons and a hybrid D-pad allow for precision, tactical gameplay."

The controller, in addition to the green Xbox button, has green back grips for more comfortable play.

The 20th anniversary controller is the latest in a long line of special edition colored controllers released by Microsoft since the release of the Xbox Series X and S consoles.

It announced in August that it would be releasing a limited edition Forza Horizon 5 controller made of translucent bright yellow plastic.

The next day, it revealed a new Halo-themed Xbox Elite Series 2 controller inspired by Master Chief's armour.

Earlier this month, it also announced the Aqua Shift Special Edition, which is now available for $69.99 and comes in a special blue color with a'shimmering' effect.
