Microsoft Teams Walkie Talkie Feature Now Available to the Public

Microsoft made the Walkie Talkie feature for Microsoft Teams which is now generally available to all users of its communication service. Walkie Talkie allows Microsoft Teams users to turn their smartphone or tablet into a walkie-talkie that can work using cellular data or Wi-Fi. The walkie-talkie feature was originally announced at two years old and has mostly been available in preview ever since. The feature rolled out widely on Android in September 2020, and now Microsoft says the walkie talkie will be available for Zebra mobile devices as well as iPhone and iPad. Microsoft primarily applies this to frontline workers, employees who deal with customers and carry out day-to-day operations within the company. The software maker's collaboration with Zebra Technologies makes it work with dedicated push-to-talk buttons for fast and secure communication.

These devices are widely used by frontline workers, employees who have helped steer the world through the ongoing pandemic. The walkie-talkie feature is still rare in communication applications. WhatsApp lets users record audio snippets rather than what can be sent and received, and Slack rolled out Huddles features like Discord last year to let people get in and out of calls with ease.

Apple did launch its own walkie-talkie feature on the Apple Watch in 2018, using push-to-talk over FaceTime Audio calls. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 4 is also rumored to have a Walkie Talkie feature. The application has been released by Samsung on the Google Play Store. Before Wear OS 3 actually launched for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series was officially announced, Samsung was rumored to be working on a walkie talkie feature. Through this feature, users can have conversations with just their watch.
