Moldovan Prime Minister Asked Parliament to Allocate Money to Pay Gazprom

 Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa sent a request to parliament to urgently consider amendments to the state budget law for 2021 in order to allocate funds to repay debts to Gazprom, the press service of parliament reported.

The Moldovan authorities imposed a state of emergency in the energy sector from October 22 to November 20. On October 29, the contract with Gazprom was extended for five years on condition that 100% of the gas received be paid for. A representative of Gazprom, Sergey Kupriyanov, said on Monday that the company would stop supplying gas to Moldova in 48 hours if it did not receive the payment due on November 22. Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu said the government has already approved the allocation of funds to Moldovagaz, the parliament supported the initiative of the Cabinet in the first reading, but must consider it in the second reading.

"Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita requests that the draft law amending the state budget law for 2021 be urgently considered and approved in the second (final - ed.) reading," a statement published on the parliament's website reads.

The prime minister's request will be considered at a meeting of the Standing Bureau of the Moldovan Parliament on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Moscow time. If the bureau approves the prime minister's request, it will be put on the agenda of the parliamentary meeting set for November 25.
