National Bubble Tea Day – Boba Day

April 30th is called National Bubble Tea Day. This delicious drink has been around for centuries, originating in Taiwan in the 1980s and becoming a worldwide phenomenon. It is also called Kung Fu Tea, Pearl Milk Tea, Boba Milk Tea, or simply boba. Dedicating a day to this drink means a lot, like – it is day when almost al-the-aware will drink it together, mesmerizing its taste with their loved ones, will help create a connection between communities. A tiny delicious step forward towards global village, where people though are restricted by the international boundaries but not by culture, taste, passion, food, love, and harmony. I like it. Do you like it?

To those who are not aware of this tea, its ingredients, or taste; let me share you some help to make it at home. The tea is mixed with milk of fruits and topped off with chewy tapioca pearls. It was invented by Liu Han-Chieh, who was a tea stand owner. She made it when she started adding flavors to her tea.

PART- 1

Making Boba with Tapioca (ساگودانہ) Starch:

Add ¼ cup brown sugar into ½ cup of water and cook it until sugar is dissolved. Turn off the flame and add ¾ cup of tapioca starch (2-3 tbs) into it.  Mix it amazingly well with no lumps left in. Then turn on the flame again. Cook it on low flame for 1-2 minutes or until it thickens. Turn off the flame. The gooey smooth paste is ready. Now add 4 tbs of tapioca starch, 2tbs of cocoa powder in it and mix it again. Then add 4-5 tbs (as required) of water and knead the paste well until dough is formed. Now while sprinkling the tapioca starch make a roll of, it. Then cut it in small sizes. Take one of the pieces, and roll it further with your palm until a long strip is formed. Quite a work if you are not purchasing it. Off! I’m sweating while writhing. Similar to this procedure, make all long thin strips, assemble them and cut them together in the size of 10mm. Now roll all the small cut pieces with palm to make a shape of a ball (pea size). (After making the tea, don’t you dare share it with others. Have it all.) These are called raw pearls. WOW. Now add these raw pearls into red hot boiling water. But later when you put all of them, boil them on medium flame for 20 minutes. Stir them continuously to avoid them to stick and kiss each other. When they are angry, turn off the flame. Cover the bowl so they rest and cool down for 15 minutes or they will take revenge later. Strain and wash boba thoroughly with water to brainwash them of your love.

Take a pan, add ¼ cup of brown sugar and mix it well on low flame. Now add that boba in it. Mis and stir until sugar melts and caramelize the pearls. The Tapioca Pearls are ready. It is just one way to make it among others. I like it the best.

PART – 2

Making Milk Syrup/ Creamer

Take 2.5 cups of milk, and add ½ cup of cream, 1 cup condensed milk, mix it well. It is ready.

Part – 3

Making Chocolate Bubble Tea

Take your favorite glass jar, mug, tub, etc. that you like the most, put your handmade boba pearls in it with syrup. Add some chocolate syrup on the sides of the glass (hey! Inside the glass jar) add ice cubes, and finally add milk syrup in the end. Now run away, hide, drink, and then come back, tell me how it was.
