Every year, November 11 is celebrated as National Education Day in India. National Education Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of former Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the first education minister in the Jawahar Lal Nehru’s cabinet and was the first Education Minister to serve the country after Independence. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served the country from 1947 to 1958 and introduced many reforms in the education sector. In 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development announced the celebration of National Education Day to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. For those of you who are not familiar with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and his contribution to the Indian education system, here is a brief history of Who Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a freedom fighter and a reformer and scholar, who played an important role in the freedom struggle of India. Maulana Azad was committed to building the nation through education. On this day, schools host a series of events including symposiums, informative seminars, etc. Both students and teachers come together to discuss the importance of literacy and the commitment of the nation in all aspects of education. National Education Day is a day to pay tribute to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and all the great contributions made by him in the education sector of free and Independent India.
