Nord Stream 2 will increase EU dependence on Russia, Polish Prime Minister said

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a meeting with his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic in Zagreb said the European Union's dependence on Russia will increase if Nord Stream 2 is launched. His words are reported by Euractiv.

The Polish politician believes that Moscow is allegedly using gas as a "political trump card.

"Russia is putting pressure on Poland and the entire European Union with the help of Nord Stream 2. Part of the EU is already heavily dependent on Russian energy, and if the pipeline starts working, we can conclude that we will become even more dependent," Morawiecki believes.

Earlier Moravetsky accused Gazprom of "manipulations" on the gas market, which allegedly led to higher gas prices in Europe. The Kremlin responded by saying that Western politicians miscalculated when switching to alternative energy sources.

For his part, President Vladimir Putin called "total nonsense and nonsense" statements about Russia's use of gas as a weapon. Moscow has repeatedly stated that Gazprom meets all its obligations to its European partners and is ready to sell more gas. "Nord Stream 2 is a 55-billion-cubic-meter-per-year pipeline that runs under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany. Its construction was completed in September. The U.S., which promotes its liquefied natural gas to the EU, and Ukraine, which fears losing transit, have actively opposed the project. Moscow has repeatedly stressed that this is a commercial venture that benefits both Russia and the EU.
