North Korea Launches Unidentified Shell Into Sea of Japan

The Japanese Defense Ministry reported that the DPRK launched an unidentified missile, presumably a ballistic missile.

The ministry is currently investigating whether a possible missile launch would affect Japan. The ministry also asked maritime vessels to follow the information and, if fragments of the missile are found, not to approach them, to report the finding. It is noted that the missile fired by North Korea may have already fallen.

Earlier, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for "pre-emptive deterrence" of enemy nuclear threats. The politician met with the Korean People's Army (KPA) commanders during a military parade. Speaking at the event, Kim Jong-un expressed the DPRK's desire to maintain the army's "absolute superiority" and "continuously improve" it.

China demonstrated the launch of a new hypersonic anti-ship missile YJ-21. A video of its launch from a Type 055 missile destroyer of the Republic's Navy has been published online. According to military experts, YJ-21 is a two-stage ballistic missile with a hypersonic reentry vehicle which can have a range of up to 1,500 kilometers. Analysts point out that the emergence of such weapons will provide the Asian power with a significant advantage in the Pacific, especially in front of the US.

The Chinese Navy launched a new hypersonic anti-ship missile YJ-21. It was noted that footage showing the launch of the missile appeared in the network on the eve of the 73rd anniversary of the formation of the PLA (People's Liberation Army of China) Naval Forces. The Asian power's authorities have not yet made any official statements on the subject.

A video of the launch of the YJ-21 (also known as Eagle Strike 21) missile from a Type 055 destroyer was published on the Chinese social network Weibo. Specialized publications call these ships the newest and largest missile destroyers in the Chinese Navy. According to media reports, they are equipped with 112 cells for launching various types of missiles.

Earlier, on April 19, footage of a YJ-21 missile carried by a Chinese H-6N strategic bomber also appeared on social media. This aircraft is a modern and deeply modified version of the Soviet "strategist" Tu-16.
