Twitter Blue is rolling out a new feature that allows users to flaunt non-fungible tokens (NFT) on their profile pictures. Currently, the feature is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers on iOS. Twitter Blue is a subscription service that Twitter just released last year. Its main difference from regular Twitter is that Twitter Blue unlocks some additional features. Twitter said later users from Android and the web will also be able to enjoy the NFT feature. The user's NFT profile picture will be displayed as a hexagonal shaped image and will be viewable on all platforms for all Twitter users.
“We see Twitter as a discovery platform for all things crypto, including NFT. NFT conversations on Twitter are growing rapidly with 255.6 million tweets globally and continue to grow rapidly,” said Twitter
Twitter wants to make it easier for users to interact with the community, participate in NFT chats, and dive into the world of digital assets right away by including NFT profile photos.
"Authenticity around NFT ownership is important to the crypto community and with NFT Profile Pictures, we're providing a way for people to prove their NFT ownership and support those who create this art," Twitter said.
To select the preferred NFT, users simply open their profile picture and change their picture. Here there will be an option to select NFT which requires users to connect their supported crypto wallet to Twitter Blue account. Twitter notes profile photos only support static JPEG and PNG NFT formats that are printed on the Ethereum blockchain. Once live, other Twitter users can click on the NFT profile picture to see information about the artist, their collection, where it came from, and whether a project or collection has been verified by OpenSea or other third-party marketplaces.
“We recognize that NFT is a powerful monetization tool for content creators. We want to support those who create art by making it easier for them to participate directly on Twitter,” added Twitter.
