Official, YouTube Hides Number of "Dislikes" in Videos

After several months of testing, YouTube has finally officially implemented the new policy on its platform. YouTube now hide the number of dislike (not like / thumbs down) in a video.

This was conveyed by YouTube in its official blog. With the enactment of this policy, YouTube viewers will no longer be able to see the number of dislikes in a video.

However, that does not mean the "dislike" button is also gone completely.

YouTube users can still see the dislike icon and click on it, if they don't like the content in the video they are watching.

In addition, content creators or video uploaders can still see the number of dislikes they have received through the YouTube Studio page.

On the other hand, the number of likes (likes/thumbs up) can still be seen by the audience and also clicked normally.

According to YouTube, this policy was implemented to change viewing habits on the platform, while creating a positive space for content creators to express themselves and be creative.

"During the trial period, we heard that some users saw the number of dislikes as a consideration for watching a video," YouTube said in a statement. from the YouTube Blog , Thursday (11/11/2021).

"We know some users may not agree with this policy, however, we believe it's the right move for the YouTube platform," YouTube added.

Applied gradually

According to YouTube, the latest policy regarding the number of dislikes will begin to be implemented on their platform gradually, perhaps to some users in several countries. It is not stated when YouTube users in Indonesia will receive it.

Before YouTube, Instagram had implemented a similar policy, however, for the number of likes . According to Instagram, it aims to reduce the level of anxiety and social comparison between users, so that they are not just competing or fighting for many likes.

In addition, the number of likes is also hidden so that users do not become obsessed with the number of these metrics, which are said to affect mental health.

The number of likes on Instagram itself is actually not completely gone. The count can be hidden privately and the account owner can still see the number of likes received in a post.
