Many electric scooter models are entering the Indian two wheeler market on a daily basis. Today, they are in greater demand than petrol models. Consumers are slowly shifting to electric mobility as fuel prices have skyrocketed over the past few months.
Okinawa Autotech, one of the country's leading electric two-wheeler makers in the two-wheeler sector, is all set to launch a new electric scooter soon. The company has released a new teaser video and pictures to introduce the model ahead of its launch on March 24, 2022.
The new teaser image released by Okinawa Autotech gives a clear view of the design of the electric scooter and some of its features. The company has recently taken these to the streets for several test runs.
The electric scooter named Oki 90 comes with a bold design. It is one step ahead of other electric scooters from the brand. It is equipped with LED headlamps, LED turn indicators and LED taillights. The model also comes with large alloy-like wheels found on motorcycles.
Okinawa Autotech has given the upcoming electric scooter a slightly sloping front. It also features a full digital instrument cluster, switchgear mounted on both handles, and a compact rider footboard. The instrument cluster is expected to display a variety of information.
In addition, the Okinawa Oki 90 is expected to come with connectivity features. The seats are expected to provide a wide range of riding comfort for the rider and passengers. The rear is housed in a thick grab rail. The scooter comes with a rear-wheel hub-mounted DC electric motor-producing setup along with a battery pack.
The battery panels are mounted on a solid floorboard. This will give the scooter better stability, the report said. Features include a pillion seat, chunky single piece, silver finished grab rail, large luggage rack at rear, and wide tail lamp. At first glance the Aprilia SXR 160 may be reminiscent of a maxi scooter.
Okinawa has already claimed that the upcoming Oki 90 high-speed scooter can travel up to 150 km on a single charge. The EV model is expected to come with a lithium-ion battery pack that allows it to run at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour. When using a fast charger, the battery can be charged up to 80 percent of its capacity in 60 minutes.
The e-scooter comes in two drive modes- Eco and Power, which can be toggled to the right of the switch gear. In addition, there will be an embedded e-SIM electric scooter that offers a number of connected features such as geo-fencing, navigation, diagnostics and more.
Currently, Okinawa is the number one player in the Indian two wheeler market. The company hopes that the upcoming electric scooter will help it gain more market share. The company is likely to set prices for the upcoming Oki 90 electric scooter against rivals like Ola S1, Simple One, Bajaj Chetak, TVS IQube and Ether 450X.
The EV manufacturer has recently announced the launch of its second electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Rajasthan. The Oki 90 will be one of the main products from this plant. The electric vehicle maker currently manufactures low speed and high speed electric scooters from its Alwar plant in Rajasthan with an annual capacity of 1.80 lakh units.
