Online classes have been a popular choice for students looking to get ahead in their college education.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 43.3 percent of full-time college students took at least one online course in 2017. Online classes can be convenient because they allow you to study and learn on your own schedule. With regards to learning, online classes are just as effective as in-class courses.
The main difference between online and in-person classes is the amount of interaction you’ll have with your professors and classmates. If you need to meet other students, you’ll have to go to class. If you prefer to meet with your professor, you can do so online or in person.
Online classes are also more affordable than in-person classes, the cost is generally less than the cost of a local class.
On the flip side, online classes have their disadvantages too. For example, if you need to take an online course for your major or minor, it may be more difficult to get into an online class. The same goes for if you need to take an online course in order to graduate on time, it may be more difficult than a local class.
Local classes have their advantages: You can meet with your professor. If it’s difficult for you to study and learn on your own schedule, meeting with your professor may be more helpful than online classes.
You can meet other students in the class. If you prefer to learn from a group of people, meeting with your classmates is always better than learning alone.
You’ll be able to ask your professor questions. If you have any problems or concerns, it is always better to talk with the person who is teaching the class than a computer program.
Since online classes are more affordable, they may be more suitable for students who are interested in taking an online course but not necessarily a local class.
