Organizing Committee of the Olympics 2022 responded to the NHL's refusal to participate in the Games

The organizing committee of the Olympic Games - 2022 in Beijing has expressed regret over the refusal of the National Hockey League (NHL) to participate in the competition. This was announced by Huang Chun, deputy head of the Office of Epidemiological Control of the Games Organizing Committee.

He also stressed that the organizing committee is making efforts to prevent a coronavirus outbreak during the Olympics. "We guarantee the safety of the Games for the health of athletes and other participants," TASS quoted the official as saying.

Recall that on December 22, the NHL officially announced that its players will not participate in the Olympics - 2022. The reason for the refusal is called an increase in the number of cases of coronavirus in the league.

The NHL also decided to suspend the regular season a day early. It was reported that hockey players will go on vacation on December 23 and resume play on December 26.

The 2022 Olympics will be held from February 4 to 20 in the Chinese capital.

NHL players already missed the Olympics - 2018. Then the Russian national team won, which was stronger than Germany 4:3 (OT) in the final.

Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) reacted to the NHL's refusal to participate in the Olympics.
