Physician explains the need for children to wear masks in public places

Andrey Pozdnyakov, infectious disease doctor, chief physician of "Invitro-Sibir" explained the necessity for children to wear masks in public places. RIA Novosti reports his words.

Pozdnyakov stressed that children need to wear masks exactly in those public places where there are many adults. "The probability that a COVID-19 infected adult infects a child is several times greater than the situation when a sick child infects a healthy one," he explained.

According to the expert, children excrete less virus than adults, yet the risk of getting infected still exists. There are more adults in public places, so it is better to wear a mask to protect a child there.

Earlier Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that the incidence of COVID-19 among children in the country has increased manifold compared to last year. Infectious disease doctor Nikolay Malyshev said that cases of COVID-19 patients among children in Russia have been reported to the intensive care unit. He added that there are fatal cases, but they are still rare.
