Quantum has launched a platform that will protect forests in Ukraine

What is it?

ClearCut is an online platform that automatically monitors forests and displays data on their condition. The basis of the platform is a piece-by-piece intellec and computer vision technology.

The program classifies found viruses with the help of a companion for a certain period of time and names them in the appropriate color:

Yellow - zones with viruses, the area of which did not change during the period.

Black colored areas are those plots of land with an increase in the area of viruses.

Grey area is the viral areas that do not have data due to the darkness or other problems related to the algorithm.

You can look through the data as of a particular date. How does the algorithm work?

The data are read from the satellite every 3-5 days. Then the images are prepared for processing by a neural network, segmentation of viruses is performed, and the results of the neural network are converted and stored in the database.

Who can use the platform and for what purpose?

According to the company, earlier ecologists were not able to automatically analyze information about the state of the forest. They did it manually, by checking images from the satellites. For more accurate information they had to travel to the land plots and make measurements of the area of known viruses. Thus, the ClearCut platform can make this procedure easier.

In addition to ecologists, the program can be used by controlling organizations and other organizations that regulate the state of forests.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky commented on the successful launch of the spacecraft. "I am sure that thousands of Ukrainians watched the broadcast of the launch. I, too, watched with bated breath online as the Falcon 9 rocket of the SpaceX company launched from Cape Canaveral in the United States with our spacecraft, as the first stage separated, and could not hold back my joy when it became clear that the launch was successful," the president wrote in his Telegram channel.

Zelensky reminded that the Sich-2-30 remote sensing satellite was developed and manufactured by the Yangel Yuzhnoye Design Bureau together with other Ukrainian enterprises. This is entirely Ukrainian technology.

This successful launch was the first launch of a Ukrainian satellite into space in the last ten years. Therefore, I am especially proud to note and thank Ukrainian designers, engineers, IT specialists and testers who once again confirmed their high level. They have proven their ability to create new samples of modern space equipment and to establish Ukraine as a powerful space nation", noted Zelensky.

The Sich-2-30 satellite is intended for monitoring the use of land, vegetation, forest and water resources and natural disaster management. That is to say, it's a satellite for civilian tasks. At the same time, it will provide sufficient quality data on the creation of engineering structures, movement of military equipment and ships. As noted, Sich-2-30 is the first in 11 years own satellite of Ukraine in orbit. It is planned that by 2025 there will be a group of eight Ukrainian satellites in orbit.Previously, Zelensky had ordered the launch of this satellite. Oleg Uruskiy, who was the country's minister for strategic industries at the time, said that the Ukrainian design bureau Yuzhnoye signed a contract with the European company ISILAUNCH to launch the Sich-2-30 satellite into orbit. According to him, ISILAUNCH is authorized by SpaceX to sell services for launching satellites into orbit. The spacecraft was planned to be launched in December 2021.
