Reading List of the Stars: Celebrity Book Recommendations

Can you guess what your favorite celebrities like to read? To give you an idea, here are some recommendations from famous book-lovers.

Michelle Obama is a successful writer; about 15 million copies of her book Becoming have been sold around the world. In 2019, she told NBC show Today that the first book she loved was Pippi Longstocking, which is about a strange but very strong young girl.

Obama also said she loved The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. Steinbeck's novel tells the story of a poor American family in the 1930s who lose their farm and travel far to look for work. Song of Solomon covers racism in the US.

American actress Reese Witherspoon loves reading so much that she started Reese's Book Club, which she uses to recommend books about women.

Witherspoon told Harper's Bazaar that the book that had the biggest impact on her was Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. The story is about author Cheryl Strayed's experiences hiking after a difficult time in her life. Witherspoon's production company made Wild into a movie in 2014, with Reese playing the main character.

RM from K-pop band BTS is known to read a lot and enjoys books by writers such as Albert Camus, Haruki Murakami and George Orwell.

RM called Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 by Cho Nam-Joo "thought-provoking." The South Korean book tells the story of Kim Jiyoung and how she is affected by sexism from the time she's a child to when she's married and a mother.
