Review of Delta mini portable fan

EcoFlow Delta Mini Portable Power Station Update: It has the power you need

Playing with a surprisingly smooth design considering its purpose, the Delta Mini Power Station from EcoFlow offers a variety of features and functionality while integrating all the ports and sockets you can expect on such a $ 999 US device. We had a Delta Mini power station for review so join us after the break to get our thoughts on the portable power station.

Aside from looking like a premium product, the EcoFlow Delta Mini sounds like a premium product with its two-tone hard-pressed plastic construction. Approximately 12V car battery size, Delta Mini has handles on the front and rear that make it easy to maneuver. The front has a readable LCD display that shows the output and input of the juice from the device, how long it will last, the temperature warning and fan indications, and which options have been turned on.

You will find a 100W USB-C port, a few USB-A (12W max) ports, and an 18W USB-A charging port located at the bottom of the display, with the power button below and the IoT reset button just above. The rear of the Delta Mini is where the heavy-duty functions, with a protective flap covering the solar charger input, AC charger speed switch, kettle plug connector, and reset button, are connected. Below the flap, you'll find an AC On / Off switch and an AC socket with up to five US brands, although the EU and UK versions do with just a few stores. The 12V cigarette light plug sits down with a 12V On / Off button and two DC5521 ports.

It is not exactly lightweight but is 23.6lbs / 11kg, still portable and can be easily taken with one hand.

Performance

To get a portable power station, we have reached the most important part of the review process. Happily, the EcoFlow Delta Mini works like a host, capable of powering things that work like a microwave or small refrigerator. Able to produce 1400W continuously, Delta Mini has the power you need if you want it. It can power a small car refrigerator for up to 12 hours, charge your phones, tablets, and laptop, and thanks to EcoFlow's X-Boost technology, you can even power a device that needs 2100W charging. The X-Boost feature will open automatically when a device requiring more than 1400W is connected, and you can turn it on or off with the EcoFlow app on your smartphone. For example, the Delta Mini is able to power a desk lamp for over 45 hours, which is quite impressive.

Fully charged, the Delta Mini will remain silent for up to a year before it needs to be refilled, and EcoFlow requires 800 cycle life before battery capacity can be reduced. As you might expect from such a machine, there are many safety features, more loading, and more powerful built-in Delta Mini features that you can monitor with the app.

While it looks like a ‘silent’ portable power station, you’ll notice the sound as fans climb up to keep the Delta Mini cool. It is not a very disturbing thing but it is something you will notice when you try to fall asleep.

It is good to have a large battery but how long does it take to fully charge? Well, that depends. If you connect the Delta Mini to AC power directly and enable the fast charging option (900W), you can charge a fully portable power station in just 90 minutes, much faster than what is required to charge the Pixel 6 Pro. If you are not in a hurry, however, you can choose to recharge the device at a cost of 200W (5 hours for full charge) up to 900W. Remember that choosing a faster charging speed may affect the overall battery life, however. You can also charge the unit using solar panels that you can get directly from EcoFlow, and as long as you have enough daylight you will be able to get 100% charging for about 8 hours or more.

The EcoFlow app (iOS and Android) lets you monitor the remaining charge, turn the X-Boost on and off, choose how fast you charge the device, and set remote output limits. The app is used to update the firmware on Delta Mini, yup, you read that right. Even portable power channels are receiving firmware updates today.

Why do you use it?

If you think of it as an energy bank over the size of steroids you will not be so wrong. It is small and light at the power station (hence the name portable), and is ideal for use in a garage or workspace, and as a power source that supports a small office during power outages and so on. It is convenient for camping, allows you to save everything and charge the grid or external lights.

The decision

There are a few things I can change with the Delta Mini like silent fans, the addition of a wireless charging pad at the top of the device, and an emergency built-in light bulb. But those are minor complaints about me and do not affect the real purpose of the unit.

As a portable power station, the Delta Mini from EcoFlow works well. Providing almost every type of port you may need as well as 882Wh of juice and the ability to fully charge in less time on your smartphone, Delta Mini Portable Power Station delivers on every point.
