Review of the movie «Look Away» (2018)

I saw this movie online a while ago and wanted to criticize it.  The film in question is Canadian and was released in 2018 and was directed by the Israeli Assaf Bernstein and distributed by Vertical Entertainment.  The film begins with a very strange photo of a photo of two conjoined fetuses, then in another shot we see the protagonist Maria Brennan (Played by India Eisley) in her high school, where she is rejected by her peers because she is a girl. weird and socially inept.  Her only friend is a girl named Lily, she is much less attractive than this, but curiously Maria is single.  Maria is a girl with serious eating and psychological disorders, and she has a terrible relationship with her parents, which isn't like they're all right either.  Her father has an obsession with plastic surgery and her poor mother suffers from anxiety and depression.  Maria refuses to talk to them and goes to her room, very huge by the way.  There she begins to touch herself in the bathtub and then she notices that her own reflection has a life of its own in the mirror and she gets scared.  Maria is really a social failure and she is not able to skate and she is embarrassed at the party and she is jealous because she likes Lily's boyfriend.  From here Maria discovers her alter ego, Airam, and through the looking glass he promises to solve her life and give her security.  Sort of like her fairy godmother.  Now Maria is happier and manages to learn to skate to Lily's surprise and in a race she is there, she crashes into a wall and bleeds to death, Maria gets off scot-free for lack of evidence.  Then she hypocritically attends her funeral and stays with her boyfriend, Sean, a handsome guy she has given tremendous handjobs to.  They have a LOT, a LOT of sex.  Later, like every movie killer, she ends up killing him with a glass and returns to her house (by the way, he also killed her father).  Later we found out that her mother had actually had two twin girls, but one of them had been born with a deformity, that's why her perfectionist father wanted the doctors to kill her.  And so the film ends with Maria lying with her mother.

Well, in my opinion it is a movie that you can watch one day when you are bored, or to add it to your list of horror movies.  The quality is very good, the dubbing is also good and the plot is entertaining. But if what you want is a plot that is elaborate and more understandable, you can see other options.  Regarding fear, this movie is not scary, perhaps the scare you can get is because of the jumpscares or sudden sounds. Many will say that it is a copy of Carrie, and even if it is, it is very well done to tell the truth.

 I give it an 8/10
