CBS: Men have been found to be the main carriers of the coronavirus
A team of scientists from Colorado State University has found that men are more likely to transmit coronavirus particles than women or children, the CBS television channel reported.
Researchers tracked the rate at which COVID-19 spread among the performing arts so that theaters, musicians and concert venues could more safely resume work after a lockdown. Participants in the experiment, of different ages, genders, and skill levels, could sing songs or play instruments. Researchers monitored the amount of saliva droplets they exhaled and found several patterns in the intensity of the coronavirus depending on people's gender and age, as well as voice volume.
"Adults tend to secrete more particles than children. And the reason men emit more particles is because we have bigger lungs. The volume of your voice serves as an indication of how much energy you put into your vocal apparatus. This energy translates into more particles coming out of your body. These are the particles that carry the virus and infect other people," explained John Wolkens, professor of mechanical engineering.
The expert stressed that the most dangerous among public recreation places are bars, sports arenas and concert venues, where people talk or sing loudly.
