Sony stops sale of Playstation 5 to Russia

In addition to Nintendo and Microsoft, Sony is also suspending sales in Russia - in response to the Ukraine war.

Sony stops the sale of the Playstation 5 in Russia. This is because of the ongoing Ukraine war, as the Japanese announced via Twitter. Further hardware and software deliveries as well as the release of the new racing game Gran Turismo 7 are also suspended.

Sony is also donating two million US dollars to refugees from Ukraine. It is not known how long the sanctions against Russia will last.

Other gaming manufacturers such as Nintendo and Microsoft have also stopped selling.

How long these sanctions will last is unknown. Things also look bleak for Russian gamers on the PC market. Most gaming platforms like Steam or the Epic Store do not work in Russia, so residents have to switch to third-party providers - if at all possible. All companies condemn the war with Ukraine and draw consequences, including in e-sports. Russian teams are currently being restricted there, and well-known games like "Fifa 22" are being adapted.

The Japanese console manufacturer announced this via Twitter.  The new racing game "Gran Turismo 7", which was released on March 4, can also no longer be purchased in Russia. The games in the racing game series have sold more than 80 million copies worldwide to date and are among Playstation's most popular games. In addition to the sales stop, Sony is also donating two million dollars to the victims of the war in Ukraine.
