State House Race: Roots Party unveils 12-point manifesto on July 2nd

Roots Party presidential candidate Prof George Wajackoyah is set to present his 12-point manifesto on July 2.

Wajackoyah's manifesto will include radical proposals to transform the agricultural sector, including legalizing marijuana to encourage its use for medicinal purposes.

He will also outline his plan to expand snake farming to create a sufficient supply of venom for the manufacture of antivenoms.

The Roots Party candidate has argued that snake farming has the potential to generate sufficient revenue to pay off the national debt, which stands at Shillings 8.4 trillion, with the debt ceiling being raised to Shillings 10 trillion.

"We will publish the manifesto and share our vision for the country with the Kenyans," Wajackoyah said in a television interview on Wednesday.

He is among four candidates approved by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for the House of Representatives on August 9. The others are: Deputy President William Ruto (UDA), former Prime Minister Raila Odinga (Azimio) and Agano Party candidate David Waihiga.

Wajackoyah, viewed by prominent analysts as a non-starter in the State House race, has dismissed polls that predicted a two-horse race between Ruto and Raila, calling the pollsters biased for not allowing responses regarding all four candidates received.

"I don't like this company and if I become president and find out that they have violated the constitution of Kenya by not doing what the Kenyans want, I will send them out," he noted.

He pointed to a recent Infotrak poll that said Raila was flawed, with 42 percent of respondents endorsing his candidacy, followed by Ruto (38 percent).

The poll released Wednesday, June 8, forecast 20 percent of undecided voters.

Wajackoyah chose Justina Wamae as his comrade-in-arms.
