Telegram has launched a paid Premium subscription

The subscription costs 499 rubles per month, users can download files up to 4 GB and disable advertising. Durov, announcing the innovation, said that the messenger "should be funded primarily by users," and not by advertisers.

Telegram messenger has launched a Premium paid subscription that gives users access to additional features, the company announced in its blog.

These included:

upload files up to 4 GB (all users can upload photos, videos and other files up to 2 GB each for free);
downloading files at maximum speed;
the ability to subscribe to 1 thousand channels;
create up to 20 folders, each of which can hold up to 200 chats;
connecting the fourth account in the app;
text recognition of voice messages;
disabling advertising in public channels with a large number of subscribers;
sending unique stickers and reactions;
Premium subscriber icon and other features.

The developers stressed that all existing functions will remain free for everyone. Also, all users will be able to download very large files and view stickers sent by Premium subscribers.

Telegram reported that the number of active users of the messenger exceeded 700 million people per month, and this year the application entered the top five most downloaded in the world.

In April, Telegram released an update that allows users to create notification sounds, configure timers for disabling alerts and automatically deleting messages. The messenger has also implemented a message translation function.

In early June, it became known that WhatsApp developers intend to introduce the ability to edit messages, which may appear in the next update. First, the option will appear for participants of beta testing of the application on iOS, Android or for a computer. On June 15, WhatsApp introduced the ability to transfer chat history, photos, videos and voice messages between Android and iPhone.
