The COVID-19 pandemic, also known as the coronavirus pandemic or coronavirus outbreak is an ongoing 2019 global coronavirus disease pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) .
The outbreak was first detected in mid-December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, Hubei, China, and was recognized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020.
Raising young children during the Covid-19 pandemic era turned out to be not easy. Wanting to be taken for a walk and to a crowded location will definitely invite anxiety.
Not being vaccinated, not being able to wear a face mask and the antibodies are not as strong as adults making young children at risk of Covid-19 infection.
This situation leads to several other problems namely the risk of young children being infected with the virus and no other caregivers to take care of the children during that period.
As a result, some have had to apply for working leave, emergency leave, ask for the courtesy of the head of the department to work from home or send a child to the home of a parent or anyone they trust.
This condition seems to be a chain, there is no solution and will continue as long as Covid-19 exists.
When the school session is fully reopened, then all school children will resume lessons as usual. Many also among them have not received the vaccine. In fact, so far only about half a million students (children aged 7-11 years) are registered to receive the vaccine. Meaning, the vast majority of school children are a group that has not received the vaccine. This poses a big challenge in preventing them from infection at school.
This is a big responsibility of all parties. Parents are certainly most concerned with this situation. Allowing children to go to school and mix with each other without any guarantee of prevention from infection is a very big risk. However, for the sake of education, parents have to allow their children to go to school.
We have been living with the Covid-19 virus for two years. Ideally, all kinds of alternative plans are already in their ‘pockets’ regarding what to do in a particular situation.
True, it is not easy to raise a small child during a pandemic era like this. The challenge is not ordinary.
All that can be done is to surrender, may our little ones be protected by the Almighty.
